Annual Events
Father Christmas Festival, Mahone Bay, Nova Scotia
November 29th to December 24th
at our annual Father Christmas Festival here in Mahone Bay the Heritage Boatyard Co-op hosts an activity for the kids.
Make A Model Boat
This activity for kids 3 -12. Model boats were how heritage boatbuilders communicated a boat design to clients. The Make A Model Boat activity helps celebrate that.
Mystic Seaport’s 32 Annual WoodenBoat Show (2024)
The Mystic Seaport Wooden Boat Show 2024 was a great success! The show ran from Friday 28th to Sunday 30th June.
We go to the Mystic Seaport Wooden Boat Show to complement the objective of the Heritage Boatyard in Mahone Bay, which is to celebrate our wooden shipbuilding history.
A key part of that history is to celebrate and promote the wooden boatbuilding industry that still thrives today on the South Shore of Nova Scotia along with the infrastructure that supports the industry such as marinas and tourist attractions.
Halifax International Boat Show (2023)
A very active show this year. We brought our Mystic Seaport Wooden Boat Show handouts, posters and information about our local wooden boatbuilders.
How to Draw a Skiff using the figure 8 work area for the kids. Mike Mason, Marine Engineer, from the Heritage Schooner Rescue Society taught teens from the Nova Scotia Sea School how to take the lines off a 1960 Plycraft. The Nova Scotia Sea School sang sea chanty songs to the passer-byers. We had a 1/2 hull making display, our vintage tool collection and a sample of our nautical library. Peter Matyas brought his Bluenose II painting, done during the build of the Bluenose.
Heritage Boatyard Co-op promotes Nova Scotia’s wooden boat builders and wooden boat activities at the
annual Mystic Seaport Wooden Boat Show.
Attired with Nova Scotian tartan kilts we enjoyed a fabulous week with our neighbours to the south.
We produced a 40 page handout introducing our local wooden boat builders.
Heritage BoatYard Weekend
Since 2011 this highly attended event has drawn tourists from throughout the province and beyond. The whole family can participate and enjoy historic talks, tours, food and live music on the wharf as we celebrate the boat building traditions of Mahone Bay and surrounding area.
